The Sphinx and Pyramids of Cairo Egypt
Cairo is the capital of Egypt, The Mother of The World.
Safely landed in Egypt, we drop by to Alexandria for the couple of hours and to see the Mediterranean view, just check my post about my travel to Alexandria “A quick break to Alexandria, Egypt” A long journey from Alexandria to Cairo, in a freezing cold weather by month of January I’ve visited this place.
A very windy and dusty weather when we reached the pyramids and the sphinx, month of January 2010 when I visited Egypt, 3 days and 2 nights. for 3000 dhs budget is worth that time to explore Egypt, in peso is about 31 thousand ++ if your from Dubai going to Egypt. Hotel, plane ticket, food and taxi budget is good for that trip.
We stay at Fairmont Hotel, Nile City, Egypt. As a hotelier, we got a hotelier discounts, so its a big help for us, we save a lot of money 😉
The Sphinx, a legendary statue with a body of lion and a human head, it is 70 m. long and 20 m. high.
On the west bank of the Nile facing Cairo and on the top of Giza plateau rise the three pyramids which are one of the ancient seven wonders of the world, surrounded by small pyramids and hundreds of mastabas ( tombs ) for king and nobles.
The three pyramids are:
1. The Great Pyramid – The most famous structure in the world was built by king Cheops ( IV Dynasty ) around 2650 B.C
2. The Second Pyramid – Built by Chephren, south-west of his father’s pyramid though lower in height, 136 m. high
3. The Third Pyramid – Built by Mycerinus ( Menkaure ) ,south-west of the great and second pyramids. It is much smaller than either one 62 m. high.
Christian monuments in Egypt have a religious and historic significance, they are regarded as a transitional period between Pharaonic and Islamic art, the Coptic museum houses a rare collection of antiquities. We never encounter to visit those churches like Al Moallaqa ( the suspended church ) , Abu Serga Church, Saint Barbara Church, Greek Orthodox Church of Mari Guirgis, The Churches of Abu Seifein Monastery but the Saint Mark Cathedral in this photo the only church we’ve visited because its easy to go there….and our taxi driver cannot find the rest of the churches…lucky we found one.
The Virgin’s Tree in Materia, they said, the holy family rested next to the blessing tree, the tree is two thousand years old and is evergreen. could you believe that? yes its true, the rest of it they put handle or bench, just to hold and protect the branches.
The Islamic Monuments in Cairo are artistic beauty, although we never visited the rest of the mosque, in this photo, The Mosque and Madrassa ( school ) of Sultan Hassan, a masterpiece of mamluke architecture, it includes bronze doors inlaid with gold, silver and marble panels. it is located on Salah El-Din Square in El-Qalla’a area.
The Citadel of Saladin ( Salah El-Din ) , built between 1176 and 1182 A.D it provides a panoramic view of Cairo from Al Moqattam Hill, the living world spread out close beneath one’s feet. The Citadel complex includes the alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali, Al Gawhara Palace, The Military Museum and the Citadel outdoor Theatre.
The Cairo Tower, Over 187 meters high, it is the most outstanding attraction of modern Cairo. At the top, there are two storeys have a rotating restaurant and cafeteria, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Cairo.
The Egyptian Museum, although were not allowed to carry camera inside the museum, they need to preserved what’s inside of it, there is a camera locker and a card number to keep it, this museum is one of the world’s most famous museum’s, it houses 250,000 antique pieces including mummies, sarcophagi and the fabulous treasures of Tut Ankh Amun’s tomb.
The Nile River, over the view from the hotel we stay, you can see the sunrise and the sunset over the Nile water, a very relaxing after our tiring feet to explore Cairo.
This Man is amazing! over his head are bread or Arabic bread, a huge tray with a plenty of bread in one hand? oh wow, bow!
the end of the day, we need to try the authentic Arabic food from the hotel we stay, Arabic mixed grill is the dish for the night over tiring feet.
